On February 8, 2015, Long Beach Transit (LBT) will no longer sell paper bus passes. LBT will instead use a durable card-based system called TAP (Transit Access Pass). LBT customers will need to acquire a TAP card to purchase Long Beach Transit bus passes.
On Tuesday, September 23, 2014, Long Beach Transit released a Request For Proposal (RFP) seeking up to 10 battery-electric buses from a qualified Transit Vehicle Manufacturer (TVM).
With the addition of battery-electric buses, over 80 percent of Long Beach Transit’s active revenue fleet will be either hybrid, compressed natural gas or zero-emission battery-electric buses.
St. Anthony High School outstanding art students Nelson Lewandowski and Megan Anderson
St. Anthony High School has two outstanding art students who have been recognized in the media. Long Beach 908 Magazine honored Nelson Lewandowski for his emotional use of art as an escape and a way to balance his life, and Megan Anderson who uses art to balance her involvement with the Long Beach Junior Crew team.
On May 29, 2014, multiple felony charges were filed against two Long Beach residents for their involvement in several street robberies in the Cities of Long Beach and Lakewood.
Between March 26, 2014, and April 18, 2014, four street robberies occurred in Long Beach.

The Awaida family lost their 13 year old son, Omar, in a tragic accident while he was camping with his brothers in late March.
Free system-wide bus service will be available on Long Beach Transit starting at 5 p.m. this New Year’s Eve. The promotion encourages residents to take public transit to and from festivities in Long Beach to avoid drinking and driving.

After a nationwide search, Emilio Sosa has been selected as the Senior Executive Director of the Weingart-Lakewood Family YMCA. Emilio has had a successful career leading the Early Childhood Education (ECE) department of the YMCA of Greater Long Beach and will bring excellence in program operations, staff development, community involvement, and fundraising experience to the Lakewood community.

On December 15, 2012, at approximately 2:20 a.m., Long Beach Police Department officers were dispatched to the 7800 block of Berner Street in response to suspicious activity around parked vehicles. Thanks to a call from an alert resident and good police work, an arrest was made.
On Monday, the Long Beach Water Department (LBWD) began taking the first round of water deliveries from the City of Lakewood as part of an innovative 5-year deal that is expected to save the Water Department approximately $20 to $50 thousand per month over the next 5 years.
