Mark W. Taylor
Mayor-Elect Robert Garcia has selected Mark W. Taylor as his Chief of Staff. Taylor is currently the Director of College Advancement, Public Affairs and Governmental Relations for Long Beach City College. In his role at LBCC, Taylor is responsible for all governmental relations including advocacy efforts, legislative affairs, media relations, and community outreach.
The Long Beach community has been extremely responsive to supporting Long Beach BLAST’s [Better Learning for All Students Today] sixth annual breakfast event. For the first time ever, the event is sold out, with 260 guests expected to attend.
Spring 2012 ushered in a new record for local nonprofit Long Beach BLAST-Better Learning for All Students Today. For the first time in its 12-year-history, BLAST’s Academic Mentoring Program deployed 400 college volunteers to support over 575 at-risk students in a single semester.

As California cuts funding for education, after school programs are some of the first on the chopping block. These programs keep at-risk children off the streets by providing a safe environment to improve after school learning.
