On Tuesday, May 24, the City Council unanimously approved three exciting development proposals in Long Beach, which involve past Redevelopment Agency parcels now owned by the City through the Long Beach Successor Agency Long Range Property Management Plan.
At the May 17 City Council meeting, the City Council has the opportunity to review two exciting development proposals in the Downtown. Both proposals involve past Redevelopment Agency parcels now owned by the City through the Long Beach Successor Agency Long Range Property Management Plan.
The City of Long Beach has been selected to join a U.S. Department of Justice National Forum on Youth Violence Prevention (Forum). The national designation will enable the City to apply for federal grant awards to implement its Safe Long Beach Violence Prevention Plan (Safe Long Beach).
Deputy City Manager Reggie Harrison
City Manager Pat West announced today that Deputy City Manager Reggie Harrison has been promoted to Director of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Communications. Mr. Harrison will become the first permanent director of the new department responsible for disaster preparedness, Homeland Security grant coordination, and the consolidation and oversight of the City’s Emergency Communications functions.

According to the California Department of Justice (DOJ) nearly 20,000 Californians possess firearms they are prohibited from having due to criminal convictions, mental illness or being the subject of domestic violence restraining orders.
Seventh District Councilmember Roberto Uranga
The Office of Long Beach City Councilmember Roberto Uranga has made available participant applications for the 61st Annual Daisy Avenue Christmas Tree Lane Parade, which will be taking place on Saturday, December 13, 2014.
The public is invited to attend two open houses and a City Council Study Session and share their thoughts regarding the future of the Long Beach Civic Center. The Civic Center has significant seismic deficiencies, and the City Council recently held a study session to receive presentations from two project teams to design, build, finance, operate and maintain a new Civic Center and Main Library, and revitalize Lincoln Park.
Today City Manager Patrick H. West announced the appointment of Tom Modica to the position of Assistant City Manager. Section 301 of the City Charter provides the authority for the City Manager to appoint an Assistant City Manager with the confirmation of the City Council.
Latina Superstar, Jenni Rivera
The Long Beach City Council voted 8-0 in favor of moving forward with Councilman Dee Andrews legislative item requesting the Long Beach City Council to consider naming a park in the 6th District in honor of Latina Superstar, Jenni Rivera.
Mayor Robert Garcia will appoint a slate of 13 new commissioners to five commissions this month – the Planning Commission, The Long Beach Transportation Company Board of Directors, the Airport Advisory Commission, the Marine Advisory Commission, and the Long Beach Community Investment Company.
