Endurance runners know that carbo-loading can help you race without hitting the wall as long as you do it right. This means pasta with tomato sauce — not a lot of fats and cheeses.
For those entered in the upcoming Long Beach Marathon, Renaissance Long Beach Hotel Executive Chef Janine Falvo (who was a Bravo TV “Top Chef” Contestant in Season 9) will help them carbo-load right with a Pre-Race Pasta Dinner the night before the big race.
Waste Management and The Long Beach International City Bank Marathon & Half Marathon have teamed up to help runners transform lives by repurposing their old running shoes. In honor of the event’s 30th Anniversary on October 10 through 12, Waste Management will collect shoes from marathon runners in a reuse campaign to benefit the Long Beach Rescue Mission.
On Sunday, October 13, some Long Beach Transit customers will experience detours and delays due to the Long Beach International City Bank Marathon. Expect detours until 5 p.m. or until street closures are reopened. Race participants who present their runner’s bib with racing numbers may ride Long Beach Transit for free on the day of the Marathon.

Councilmember Robert Garcia has introduced two new pieces of legislation for the February 7 City Council meeting agenda, both aimed at improving the health of Long Beach residents by encouraging participation in physical fitness, extending healthful food choices into underserved neighborhoods, and creating policies that support nutrition, exercise, and a healthy lifestyle.

With the Pacific Ocean and Surf City USA’s iconic pier as a backdrop, a crowd of more than 30,000 lined Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach for near-perfect racing conditions.

Jason Gutierez took advantage of good conditions and won the 26th running of the annual International City Bank Long Beach Marathon, held Sunday through the streets of Long Beach.
Gutierez, originally from Colombia and who now lives in Anaheim, finished with a time of 2:19:21 under mostly overcast skies and mild temperatures.
