Mayor Robert Garcia, Councilmembers Rex Richardson and Al Austin and the Department of Library Services invite the public to a groundbreaking ceremony for the new North Neighborhood Library, at 10 am on Saturday, October 25, at 5870 Atlantic Ave., in Long Beach.
On Saturday, May 10, at 2:00 PM, the El Dorado Neighborhood Library will host an LA Opera Lecture Series featuring the opera, A Streetcar Named Desire. This program is part of the LA Opera Lecture Series, presented by LA Opera’s Community Educator Anne Russell Sullivan and hosted by John Spear.

Claudine Burnett will be visiting the Dana Neighborhood Library on Friday, October 11, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. to read from and discuss her book, Prohibition Madness: Life and Death in and around Long Beach, California, 1920-1933.
Can you dig it? “Dig into Reading” is the theme of Summer Reading Club at Long Beach Public Library. Readers of all ages can dig into great books and win prizes along the way, including a Kindle Fire. In addition, there will be weekly prizes and drawings provided by the Friends of the Long Beach Public Library.
The LBSO Instrument Petting Zoo returns to Long Beach libraries this summer.
This summer kids can have a hands-on introduction to the Long Beach Symphony when they visit a local library. During June, July and August the Instrument Petting Zoo will make eight special appearances to share the joy of music and pique the interest of young children (sometimes as young as 3 years old).
The Los Altos Neighborhood Library Book Club invites you to discuss Plainsong by Kent Haruf. The February pick is A Taste for Death by P.D. James. The club meets on the second Saturday of each month and is open to all adults.

On Saturday, July 28th, join Councilmember James Johnson as he hosts We Harte B.A.R.K., a monthly event at Bret Harte Library.
The 7th District Councilmember has partnered up with B.A.R.K. (Beach Animals Reading with Kids) to encourage children to read by providing them with the opportunity to read aloud to friendly and attentive dogs.
