Residents who missed their chance during the Spring to clean out their closets, garage and office files will have another opportunity during Donation & Recycle Day on Saturday, June 20 (10:00 am – 1:00 pm) at Big Saver Foods on East 7th Street.

Hughes Middle School will team up with Goodwill, Serving the People of Southern Los Angeles County (Goodwill SOLAC), to host a community Used-Book Drive for America Recycles Day, Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm.

Sixth District Councilman Dee Andrews will host a Document Shredding and Recycling Event on Saturday, November 8, 2014, between 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, 1950 Lemon Avenue, Long Beach, CA (across from Long Beach City College – PCH/Orange Avenue campus).

Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal
Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal is hosting “Council in the Park” on Tuesday, September 30, asking residents to stop for a chat while they are shopping at the Bixby Park Farmers Market. Council in the Park gives residents a chance to visit with the Vice Mayor and her staff outside of normal business hours and promotes activities in the park such as the farmers market.

Waste Management and The Long Beach International City Bank Marathon & Half Marathon have teamed up to help runners transform lives by repurposing their old running shoes. In honor of the event’s 30th Anniversary on October 10 through 12, Waste Management will collect shoes from marathon runners in a reuse campaign to benefit the Long Beach Rescue Mission.

Have any items laying around that you no longer use but don’t have the heart to throw out? Imagine a community space where you could take them to and know that someone else will accept them and give it a new home. That is the vision behind the monthly Seven-Ten Swap, a free community exchange where people can give items that are clean and in good condition to pass on to others.

Sixth District Councilman Dee Andrews will host a Document Shredding and Recycling Event on Saturday, June 7, 2014, between 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., at Martin Luther King, Jr.

Most people can tell the difference between a Mallard, Canada Goose, and a Mute Swan, but what about the myriad of other winged wonders that frequent the lakes, ponds, and wetlands of the City of Long Beach? The Winged Wonders banner project at the El Dorado Park Duck Pond will help visitors identify the various feathered residents while also offering information about each bird’s diet and song or call.

The Second District eWaste & Recycling Drive is the perfect chance to get rid of all sorts of household items following the holidays in a free, fast and ultra-convenient way. What makes this event unique is that we’ll be accepting more than just eWaste, including large appliances, bulk items, cell phones and lightly used clothes and household items.
