This week, the St. Mary’s High School “Saints” from Calgary, Alberta, Canada are coming to Long Beach to face off with St. Anthony High School’s “Saints” in the tenth rendition of their rivalry, competing in football, volleyball, and soccer.

Kids competing in sports is as common as fireworks in July, because for most kids being active is a way of life.
Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine and the Long Beach Convention and Visitor’s Bureau are teaming up for the fifth year in a row to offer www.100daysofsummer.org, a searchable calendar of free concerts & movies, Long Beach Sea Festival events, El Dorado Nature Center & historic site events, and ideas for spontaneous fun like hiking, biking, golf, tennis, swimming, and youth and teen programs.

The City of Long Beach has been awarded a $61,500 grant from the U.S. Soccer Foundation to convert two tennis courts to two futsal courts at DeForest Park, 6255 De Forest Ave. Futsal is a fast-growing, fast-paced variant of soccer.

Futsal is the latest sport to take the City of Long Beach by storm. Futsal is a five-a-side version of soccer played on basketball-sized courts, both indoors and outdoors, without the use of sidewalls.
