The US Sumo Open, the largest annual sumo tournament in the world (outside of Japan), has been held in the Los Angeles area for 14 years, debuting in Long Beach at Cal State Long Beach’s Walter Pyramid in 2014.

This week, the St. Mary’s High School “Saints” from Calgary, Alberta, Canada are coming to Long Beach to face off with St. Anthony High School’s “Saints” in the tenth rendition of their rivalry, competing in football, volleyball, and soccer.

Kids competing in sports is as common as fireworks in July, because for most kids being active is a way of life.

National Champions Chico Spikeball will host “The Long Beach Classic” on Saturday, August 16th which has teams traveling from as far as San Francisco to compete. The tournament, which will take place at the beach at the end of Cherry Avenue from 10 a.m.
