There are two candidates seeking election to this office:  incumbent Council Member Tonia Reyes Uranga, and Assistant City Auditor James Johnson.  Both candidates advanced to the June 8th run-off election as they were the top-two finishers in the City’s April 13, 2010, Primary Nominating Election.

Reyes Uranga is the first City Council Member to appear on the newly formed Long Beach Based Swoop’s World Radio. “We hope to eventually have the opportunity to interview all of our City Council representatives…providing the community with an opportunity to speak directly to our representatives in an informal setting is just one of the many things we hope to achieve with our show,” said talk show host Swoop.

Councilwoman Reyes Uranga has represented the 7^th District since 2002 and has also served on a variety of committees and boards. She has served as Chair of the Long Beach City Council’s Environmental Committee and the I-710 Oversight Committee, as Chair of the City’s two primary committees responsible for preserving the quality of life in our neighborhoods, and as representative of the 61 cities of the Los Angeles Counties – Eastern Region on the South Coast AQMD Governing Board.
