Students at the Long Beach Job Corps Center celebrated Black History Month in a diversity of ways most recently with a culinary sampling of Ethiopian food.

Celebrate It’s A Grind Coffee House’s NEW Gourmet Menu on Saturday, January 18th with the official launch party beginning at 10AM with a VIP ribbon cutting ceremony at 2PM. The festivities include live music, hourly drawings- and free samples of waffles, hand-crafted gourmet sandwiches served open-toasted, on a ciabatta or pita bread including vegetarian choices and specialty desserts paired perfectly with barista-crafted beverages.

Green Long Beach! will present its plan for the next year, focusing on four initiatives generated from community feedback.

The community is invited to celebrate International Vegetarian Day in Long Beach at the 5th annual Compassionate Cuisine, Friday, October 1, 2010, at the beautiful Earl Burns Miller Japanese Garden at CSULB. All proceeds benefit Animal Acres farmed animal sanctuary to support its animal care and public education programs.

On January 21, Long Beach’s “Evolvers” will gather at Light and Space Studio on 620 Cherry Avenue to explore the benefits of a grassroots economic system based on gifting.
Attendees will exchange “Green Elephant” gifts hand-made for the occasion, and will explore the possibility of forming a local Time Bank, where members would earn “Time Dollars” for services rendered, reconnecting labor and value with time as the common rate of exchange.
