The Long Beach Playhouse will curate a portion of the A LOT North Lot, Oct. 19. A LOT is a city-wide initiative presented by the ACLB in collaboration with the City of Long Beach. Each FREE A LOT event presents a variety of genres of performance in vacant lots, activating the spaces with art, culture, and even food for the community to enjoy!
After reviewing applications from across the USA, Canada, and Latin America, The Arts Council for the City of Long Beach has concluded its search for a new Executive Director. On April 7th, ACLB president, Marco Schindelmann, offered to the Board of Directors, for consideration and approval, the Search Committee’s recommendation of Victoria Bryan.

The School of Art at California State University, Long Beach is celebrating the 46th year of this annual holiday tradition – the CSULB Holiday Art Sale. From December 1-5, the students and faculty of this nationally recognized visual arts program provides a very special holiday shopping opportunity for area lovers of art and fine craft – thousands of unique and individual pieces will be on display and available for purchase in the CSULB School of Art Student Galleries.
We here in Long Beach are quite fortunate that Toni Ivashkov decided to set up her artistic base in the Zaferia District of Long Beach. Her art studio, the Artist Factory, is tucked away in an Artist Co-op at 1330 Gladys Avenue, just south of Orizaba Park, and it’s full of current sculptures, drawings, paintings, and student works in progress.

The artwork of Romare Bearden, one of America’s most prolific artists, is featured on a set of four Forever stamps dedicated today by the U.S. Postal Service during a first-day-of-issuance ceremony at the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture.
