The City of Long Beach, Sixth District Councilman Dee Andrews, Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation & Marine and the Residents of Long Beach are pleased to announce the City of Long Beach 25th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr.
Peace Week begins in Long Beach this week, uniting the community with the teachings of nonviolence and equality while celebrating the revolutionary spirit of one of America’s most prominent advocates for racial justice and equality, Dr.
Sixth District Councilman Dee Andrews, along with the Long Beach Ministers Alliance, Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation & Marine, Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services Weed & Seed Program, and the Boys & Girls Club of Long Beach is hosting the Annual Juneteenth Celebration, at Martin Luther King Jr.
Local youth reap the benefits of service this week as they loaded onto a chartered bus headed to Disneyland.
More than 50 youth, all members of the Long Beach Weed and Seed Program, went on the trip. They volunteered a day of service and received a free day at Disney per the “Give a Day, Get a Day” ticket program.
Do you or someone you know have a criminal record that needs to be cleared? If so, you’ll want to attend the Expungement Education Workshop, March 20 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at McBride Park. City officials will be on hand to show to request that either an adult or juvenile record be expunged.
A series of Police and Youth Dialogues are scheduled this week to coincide with the Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Week Celebrations.
The first event takes place tonight January 13. With the two additional dialogues following on January 14, and 20.
As a kick-off to the City of Long Beach Peace Week activities, Councilman Dee Andrews will be breaking ground on the Community Peace Garden. The event will take place on Saturday, January 9th at 4:30 PM on the east side of the Central Facilities Building at Martin Luther King Jr.
Sixth District Councilman Dee Andrews, the Long Beach Boys and Girls Club, the Long Beach Weed & Seed Program, and the youth of the 6th District is hosting a 6th District Youth Talent Show.
The try-outs for the youth talent show are scheduled for Thursday, August 13, from 2:30 pm to 5:00 pm and the finals will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2009 from 1:00 p.m.
Sixth District Councilman Dee Andrews is hosting the 1st Annual Sixth District Community BBQ, today, Saturday, July 25, 2009 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Martin Luther King, Jr. Park, 1950 Lemon Avenue.
“I am calling out to all my neighbors to join me for a good ole fashion community BBQ”, said Councilman Andrews.
