YMCA’s Student Athletes from Around the Country Arrive to Compete in Long Beach

ymca-gymnastics The YMCA of Greater Long Beach will host the nation’s top YMCA student gymnast’s next June 29-July 3 for the 2016 YMCA National Gymnastics Championship in Long Beach, California. YMCA of the USA selected Long Beach in part due to the tremendous community support evidenced during the site visit, the quality of the venue sites for competition, the expertise and energy demonstrated by the YMCA of Greater Long Beach Gymnastics Program and its community history of providing quality sporting experiences to participants in past hosting opportunities.

More Than 1,000 Kids to Receive Backpacks and School Supplies, Saturday

National Make A Difference Day Councilmember Al Austin and the Andy Street Community Association are joining together to help more than 1,000 kids get ready for the start of school. On Saturday, schoolchildren are scheduled to receive backpacks filled with school supplies, as well as free haircuts, health screenings and free food at the “Back to School Summer Blast.” During the event, there will also be an opportunity for community members to provide input on what they would like Phase II of Davenport Park to look like.

Emilio has had a successful career leading the Early Childhood Education (ECE) department of the YMCA of Greater Long Beach and will bring excellence in program operations, staff development, community involvement, and fundraising experience to the Lakewood community.

Library Officials Embarking on Book-Buying Trip to Cambodia Two Library officials traveled to Cambodia on Saturday, October 19, 2012 to purchase Khmer books and materials for the Mark Twain Neighborhood Library Khmer collection, which is located in the heart of Cambodia Town. “These books are not available online or through traditional sources like a local bookstore,” Mayor Bob Foster said.

King Taco Provides Underprivileged Kids The Opportunity To Go To The Races

king-taco To thousands of underprivileged youngsters in Long Beach and L.A. County, King Taco is much more than just the “Official Mexican Restaurant” of the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. For five years, King Taco has been purchasing Sunday race grandstand tickets and distributing them to youngsters from the Long Beach Boys and Girls Clubs, along with 28 other Boys and Girls Clubs in greater Los Angeles, and YMCA and church groups.
