Long Beach City College’s sports information specialist Chris Ruiz was recognized by his statewide colleagues with the top award from the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) on Thursday, April 2.

“Chris’ work to promote our athletic programs and sports accomplishments through media, the LBCC Viking Athletics website and social media is outstanding,” said Connie Sears, LBCC Dean of Student Affairs and Athletics. “We’re proud of Chris and delighted that he has been recognized by his sports information peers from throughout the state.”

Ruiz received the 2015 “Bringing Respect and Superior Service to our Profession” or Brass Top award during the California Community College Athletic Association’s annual conference luncheon. Ruiz was nominated by a CCCSIA member and the group of statewide 50 past and current community college sports information directors voted for this year’s honoree.

Ruiz has worked at LBCC for 14 years. He graduated from California State University, Fresno, where he majored in mass communications and journalism. He was a student assistant in the Fresno State sports information office prior to joining Long Beach City College. He lives in Lakewood with his wife and their four children.
