LBFD Extinguishes Attic Fire at Spires Restaurant

roof fire at spires restaurantOn January 14 at 7:30 a.m., the Long Beach Fire Department was dispatched to a report of smoke inside the kitchen of Spires Restaurant off of Lakewood Blvd and Willow Street.

Upon arrival, Light Force 17 found the building had been evacuated and the interior was charged with smoke. Within minutes, fire erupted in the attic area that houses the air conditioning equipment. The fire was quickly knocked down by Engine 19 and crews began salvage operations inside the kitchen area to prevent any damage below.

Long Beach Police Officers temporarily closed down Eastbound Willow Street, while firefighters overhauled the roof area to check for any hot spots. Long Beach Health Department responded and issued a closure notice due to the smoke contamination of the kitchen.

This incident ended with only minimal damage.  LBFD Fire Investigators are working on determining the cause of this fire.  There were a total of eight Fire Department Apparatus with 23 personnel working on-scene of this fire that took place in the 4th Council District.
