Long Beach Opera (LBO) and The Art Theatre are teaming up to bring you this new event! Join fellow opera lovers on select Sunday mornings for a pre-movie lecture with Andreas Mitisek, coffee, mimosas, and opera films you won’t see anywhere else.
On Sunday July 25th at 11am, LBO Cinema presents a lecture with Andreas Mitisek followed by a screening of the film The Mozart Brothers at the Art Theatre Long Beach, 2025 EAST 4th Street, Long Beach.
The Mozart Brothers is a theatrical farce about a Swedish staging of Mozart’s Don Giovanni with a new, subversive director that puts more than one spin on its cast and orchestra ensemble. With a chaotic plot that snowballs into a charade of theater sports ad-libs, the film features a Fellini-style staging, full of loud, impromptu dialog and opera song outbursts. Walter, the director, assembles his cast and proceeds to pin back their ears. “I don’t like singing,” he tells them. “And I hate opera.” The only theater he respects is a theater that “understands silence,” and he informs them that the opera will be staged on a single set — a graveyard filled with damp earth. The cast members, struck dumb by these pronouncements, wear expressions ranging from shock to homicidal rage. One thing is agreed on, though: This weaselly little upstart has to be stopped…
$10 buys you coffee, a lecture, and great company… the movie is free! Get your Sunday morning delight here.
