LBPD Responds to Double Murder at LB Memorial

At approximately 11:47 a.m., Long Beach Police responded to a shots fired call at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, which resulted in the death of three male adults.
When officers arrived, they discovered 46-year-old Hugo Bustamante of Cypress in the hospital’s pharmacy area. Victim Bustamante had sustained a gunshot wound and was taken to the emergency room for treatment, where he was pronounced deceased short time later. When additional officers arrived, they discovered a second shooting victim, 56-year-old Kelly Hales of Redondo Beach. Victim Hales was found outside on the north side of the hospital with a gunshot wound. He was also taken to the emergency room for treatment and was pronounced deceased several hours later.
The suspect, identified as 50-year-old Mario Ramirez of Alhambra, was found lying in the street on the north side of the hospital. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Based on the preliminary investigation, it appears that the suspect died as a result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
All three individuals involved in this incident were employees of the hospital. Inquiries on specific employment history information will be handled by Long Beach Memorial Medical Center.
The motive for the shooting is unknown at this time and the investigation is ongoing.
