On Saturday, May 23, 2009, at approximately 10:45 p.m., Long Beach Police responded to a shots fired call in the 1000 block of East Hill Street, which resulted in the death of a male subject and the injuring of a second.
Both victims were standing in front of the location along with a group of individuals when a vehicle drove up. A passenger within that vehicle fired several shots into the group, striking the two victims.
One victim, who investigators believe to be a 17-year-old male Asian from Long Beach, was struck multiple times in the torso and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second victim, a 19-year-old male White from Signal Hill, was transported to a local hospital by a friend with a non-life-threatening injury to the torso.
The Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office will determine the deceased’s identity and make notification to next of kin. A suspect and vehicle description is being withheld at this time due to the ongoing investigation. Detectives believe the incident was possibly gang-related.
Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is urged to contact Long Beach Police Homicide Detectives Dan Mendoza and Dave Rios at (562) 570-7244.
