LBSU Women’s Golf Team ties for 12th at Dale McNamara Invitational

The Long Beach State women’s golf team shot a 328 in the final round of the Dale McNamara Invitational to tie for 12th place with Oral Roberts. The 49ers closed out the three-day tournament at 72-over par 936.
Oklahoma claimed the team championship by three-strokes over Oklahoma State and Texas. The Sooners finished the tournament at 13-over 877. Tournament host Tulsa placed fourth with a 903 (+39).
“It wasn’t very fun today,” 49er coach Joey Cerulle said. “That was not our team out there today. We battled injuries and tough winds, but we executed shots poorly and mismanaged our round. I hope they learned a lot about themselves and look to rebound in our final event this fall.”
Sophomore Simone Hoey withdrew from the tournament due to illness and an injury after playing the first nine holes,. Hoey was tied for 12th after Tuesday’s second round, shooting a 73.
Senior Reina Rogers was the top finisher for LBSU, shooting an 81 in the final round to tie for 34th. Rogers closed out the tournament at 16-over 232.
Junior Monica Villarreal carded a 79 to finish at 17-over, tying for 37th, while freshman Rochelle Chan recorded an 85 for a 23-over, tying for 55th.
Senior Lindsey McAtee finished with an 83 to tie for 72nd. McAtee completed the tournament at 33-over.
Ellen Mueller of Oklahoma won individual medalist honors by a comfortable seven shots, finishing at 7-under 209.
The 49ers return to action on Monday, Nov. 1, traveling to the Lamkin Grip Invitational hosted by Cal Poly in Arroyo Grande.
