Long Beach Arts & Culture Registry connects artists, arts lovers
2009-06-23 · By Editor
Long Beach has a new portal to promote its creative talent to local and global audiences. The Long Beach Arts & Culture Registry was created to be an inclusive and comprehensive opportunity for all artists — from music to ceramics; acting to writing — the registry supports visual, performing, literary and folk art.
Artists and organizations are encouraged to add their name to the Long Beach Arts & Culture Registry. Professional, emerging and student artists in Long Beach can sign up online and post photos, video, web links, contact information and more. It is free, and takes minutes to sign up.
Registrants can get updates from the Arts Council about grants, events and other opportunities, and the Arts Council is committed to promote it.
The registry was researched and developed by the Leadership Long Beach Class of 2009, who joined forces with the Arts Council for Long Beach and City of Long Beach Economic Development and Cultural Affairs Bureau. The Registry website programming was donated by Ryan Smolar. The Registry is an on‐going free service hosted by the Arts Council for Long Beach.
“Linking the public to great artists whether it’s visual, literary or performing artists is a terrific service,” said Craig Watson, Executive Director of the Arts Council for Long Beach.
“Having a registry where artists can participate, be listed and their work shown is just a marvelous contribution to our community,” said Robert Swayze, Director of the Economic Development and Cultural Affairs Bureau.
“We encourage businesses and organizations to use the Registry when looking for creative talent,” said Rachel Potucek, Leadership Long Beach project team leader and Arts Council Board member. “Plus, this project had virtually no expenses because everyone on the team donated a piece to the overall goal.”
