Long Beach Boys and Girls Club Holds Board-Walk Fund Raiser for Healthy Lifestyles
2016-02-25 · By Jessica Pollack
On Saturday, March 5, Boys and Girls Club Board Members and Community Members will once again raise money for the Healthy Lifestyle Program.
Since 2011, Board Member, Dr. Grant Uba has invited fellow Board Members and the local community to walk with him to raise funds for Club programs like the Healthy Lifestyle Program that helps members focus on the skills needed to have a healthy life while learning financial literacy, substance abuse prevention techniques. Offerings include gender specific programs that ease the transition from childhood to adolescence and help young people make good decisions for themselves.
Over the last 5 years, Dr. Uba has raised over $100,000 to support programs at the Boys and Girls Clubs. For all of this, he earned the DreamMaker award in November as part of the Youth of the Year celebration. Rather than just receiving an award, Dr. Uba and his wife Debbie and children, Grant Jr and Lauren made an amazing matching donation.
Board Members and community walkers register online at http://www.bgclublb.org/board-walk to join the 2016 Board-Walk 3 mile walk-a-thon loop. Friends and donors can go to the same site to pledge an amount per mile for registered walkers. Walkers can win prizes for building donations. Help out your favorite walker while they help support the programs at the 14 Boys and Girls Clubs of Long Beach.
