Long Beach Camerata Singers Opens Season with BLAST! Bernstein, Pipes, and Percussion
2011-10-14 · By Editor
The Long Beach Camerata Singers and widely acclaimed Artistic Director Rob Istad are taking center stage for their first concert of the season with two concert performances on October 22 in Redondo Beach and October 23 in Long Beach.
BLAST! Bernstien, Pipes, and Percussion will bring the Camerata Singers together with the Cal State Fullerton Percussion Ensemble, renowned virtuoso organist Jung-A Lee and harpist Ellie Choate to perform ground-breaking and gripping new works by young composers Tarik O’Regan, Jonathan Dove, and indie rock darling Nico Muhly.
The group will join with Manhattan Beach Middle School chorus conducted by Heather Gold, and will feature a world premiere performance of Just like a dream experience… by Ken Walicki, an artist known for breaking rules, building bridges, and enrapturing audiences with his unconventional works.
The concert will conclude with a performance of Leonard Bernstein’s beloved Chichester Psalms – an exhilarating work whose themes contrast spiritual austerity with impulsive rhythms.
The Camerata Singers will give their first BLAST! performance at 7 p.m. on October 22 at Riviera United Methodist Church 375 Palos Verdes Blvd., Redondo Beach, CA 90277, and a second performance at 5:30 p.m. on October 23 at Covenant Presbyterian Church 607 E. 3rd St. Long Beach, CA 90802.
