Long Beach Comic Con attendees get first peek at Bloom County book

bloom-county-comic-conBerkeley Breathed will make his first ever comic convention guest appearance at the Long Beach Comic Con this weekend to support IDW Publishing’s release of the first archival collection of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Bloom County.

Bloom County is one of the most popular and critically acclaimed newspaper strips of modern times. Created by Breathed, the strip premiered on December 8th, 1980 and featured the beloved and quirky denizens of Bloom County including Opus, Steve Dallas, Bill the Cat, Milo Bloom, Michael Binkley, and Cutter John. The strip was published in over 1,200 newspapers. The street date for the book is October 6, however, convention attendees will get chance to own it before anyone else.

Long Beach Comic Con will take over the Convention Center this weekend, October 2-4 featuring the comic book industry’s best and brightest talent.

In addition to the Bloom County sneak peek, Marvel has pledged a limited edition book exclusively for show attendees who pre-order tickets. Comic Con ticket holders will receive a free copy of Amazing Spiderman #606 with a variant cover by J. Scott Campbell if they order tickets in advance.

Comic artists committed to appear at Long Beach Comic Con thus far include: Stan Lee, Jim Lee, Thomas Jane, Berkeley Breathed, Seth Green, Tim Bradstreet, Jeph Loeb, Bogdanove and George Lazenby.
