Ten Long Beach divers to compete at Zone Championships

Ten Divers who train in Long Beach with McCormick Divers qualify for Zone E Championships, in Pasadena June 30 – July 3. The Zone E Championships is one of five contests around the country leading up to the USA Diving Summer Junior National Championships. The top six finishers in each event move on to Junior Nationals in Tuscon, Arizona July 23-27.
Three of McCormick’s youngest divers qualified in the Eleven and Under Age Group. Megan Marino and Sara Knippa of Long Beach and Jacqui Cleugh, (pictured), of Huntington Beach will all compete this weekend in their first Junior Level Zone Competition.
In the twelve to thirteen age group Brandon Loschiavo, (pictured), of Huntington Beach and Dolly Payne of Los Alamitos are competing in their first Summer Zone Championships. Brandon competed in his first Winter Spring West National Championships in April and has a good chance at earning a place in the Summer event which includes divers from across the U.S. Dolly hopes to qualify for her first Nationals since returning to diving after a two year hiatus from diving.
Two Long Beach divers qualified in the fourteen to fifteen age group. Olivia Payne and Lauren Skinner will both compete on the one meter board. This is Olivia’s first high level competition in the fourteen to fifteen age group. Lauren, who just started diving a few months ago, is starting out strong with hopes of her first National Championships.
McCormick Divers is sending three sixteen to eighteen age group. Nyko Bodnar of Long Beach and Adam Springer of Whittier have each competed at the National Level in younger age groups. Adam Payne, (pictured), of Los Alamitos was a regular National medal winner when he was younger living and diving in Australia. Each of the boys is hoping to compete Nationally for the first time in this age group
