Long Beach To Be Among 130+ Cities Worldwide Participating in Flash Mob Meditation Friday

Thousands of people in cities around the world will gather at government buildings and universities August 25-28 to meditate. The movement, known as MedMob, is a series of public meditations taking place in locations all over the map — London, Amsterdam, Melbourne, Rome, Kenya, and right here in Long Beach.
MedMob began this year on January 30 when 60 people launched a meditation flash mob in Austin at the Texas State Capitol. Then in February, the Austin MedMob grew to 250 people with seven other cities hosting their own MedMobs. In eight months, MedMob has expanded rapidly to become a worldwide movement with public meditations planned in more than 130 cities this month.
“Our initial intention was to expose Austin to the power of meditation and invite people from all walks of life to join,” commented Patrick Kronfli, co-founder of MedMob. “It’s inspiring to see leaders around the world rise up to create the same experience and it’s exciting to be part of a global movement committed to internal peace.”
LONG BEACH MEDMOB INFO:
Last month, more than 70 Long Beach MedMob participants converged on City Place shopping center for Long Beach’s first meditation mob.
On Friday, August 26th from 12-1pm, MedMob Long Beach invites residents to meet at the Clock Tower outside City Hall at the Long Beach Civic Center (300 W Ocean Blvd) for a 44 minute meditation followed by an 11 minute “sound bath.”
Participants are welcome to join or observe for whatever length of time they’re comfortable with. “We believe in respecting where people are at in their lives, whether they’re focused on work or their families. But we also want more folks in our city to see meditation as a practice that’s vital the mental, physical, and emotional health of our communities. It’s an empowering tool that anyone can use!” exclaimed Tony Damico, who works alongside local businessman Paul Rastrelli and LA-based performance artist Season Cole to organize the public meditations.
Upcoming MedMob Dates:
September 21, 2011, The International Day of Peace.
November 11, 2011, 11/11/11 Unification Event
December 26, 2011 Winter Solstice
