Long Beach GLBTQ Organizations Work as One

Finally, one click can bring Long Beach residents all the goings-on in the local GLBTQ community—from the bar scene to the boardroom. Effective April 1, 2011, OutLBCalendar.com, began serving as the online source for all the activities, events, services and opportunities for the GLBTQ population.

Always up-to-date and available to anyone at anytime, participants in the calendar include The Center Long Beach, LBLGP (Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride Inc.), and LBCBN (Long Beach Community Business Network). Postings range from announcements of “Bear Bar” nights every second Saturday at Club Ripples to meetings of the LAMBDA Democratic Club.

The calendar is the brainchild of event production consultant Elisa McConnehea. “My vision,” says McConnehea, “is to give people one place to find out both where the parties are, and where to volunteer. The calendar’s purpose is twofold: to coordinate the activities of the GLBTQ organizations in Long Beach and, more importantly, to give residents one resource for all their many offerings.”

Is there a way for other LGBT organizations in Long Beach to be able to contribute to this calendar? I work with the Human Rights Campaign, the largest political organization in the country working for LGBT rights, and our Long Beach committee often has events and volunteer opportunities that we would love others to be involved with.
