Long Beach International City Marathon returns for Silver Anniversary

long-beach-marathonOn Sunday, October 11 an estimated 22,000 runners, bikers, and walkers will tour the city in the 25th Annual Long Beach Marathon. Participants will run 26.2 in Southern California’s most scenic marathon with magnificent ocean views.

The event includes a Full-Marathon, Half-Marathon, recreational Marathon Bike Tour, the Run Forrest Run 5K and the Kids 1 Mile Fun Run. In a continuing tradition, wheelchair and handcycle participants can compete in the full marathon.

The weekend also includes a free-to-the public Health and Fitness Expo in Hall C of the Long Beach Convention & Entertainment Center. The Expo is open noon-7 p.m. Friday, October 9 and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10. Admission to the Health Expo is free, but parking at the Convention Center is $10.

In celebration of its 25th Anniversary, the Long Beach International City Bank Marathon will be giving away a host of prizes in a random drawing contest. Anyone registered for any of the marathon events by the contest deadlines (October 1 for mail-in registrations and October 7 for online registrations) will automatically be eligible for the contest drawing. Topping the list of prizes will be 25 Round Trip Travel Certificates on JetBlue Airways, the Official Airline of the Long Beach International City Bank Marathon. Certificates are valid from any JetBlue departure city to any non-stop JetBlue destination city.

Additional prizes include: $250 Prize Package from Clif Bar; $250 Prize Package from Road Runner Sports: $250 Prize Package from Hyatt Regency Hotel Long Beach and ten $25 gift certificates from Bubba Gump Shrimp Company. All marathon and half-marathon participants will receive a Technical Fabric running shirt. Finishers in the Marathon, Half Marathon, and Bike Tour will receive a commemorative finisher’s medal. Participants will also receive free admission to the Aquarium, discounts and coupons for local businesses and a goodie bag.

As more than 20,000 racers converge on downtown for the Long Beach Marathon, traffic is going to be heavy. Visit the marathon website for information about street closures and allow yourself plenty of time on race day to get where you are going due to the road closures and slow traffic in some areas.
