Long Beach Jazz Festival to honor Wayman Tisdale

Tickets are now on sale for the Long Beach Jazz Festival August 7-9, 2009. The annual southern California jazz festival is staged on the gorgeous grassy knoll at Marina Green Park.
Founder Al Williams has brought together a musical line-up that is as incredible as ever. The Long Beach Jazz Festival features some of this year’s top jazz artists including Leela James, Ramsey Lewis, Clarence McDonald, Norman Brown, Patti Austin, Eric Darius, Gail Jhonson, Al Williams Jazz Society featuring Barbara Morrison and many, more.
The opening night of the festival, there will be a special dedication to Mr. Wayman Tisdale. On Friday, August 7, the night Tisdale was scheduled to perform, the show will honor the memories and life of this courageous, happy and caring person. The entire Long Beach Jazz Festival is being dedicated to this “Gentle Giant” of jazz.
In addition, festival-goers can see the Next Great Drummer in a special performance Saturday, August 8. A weekly Reality Show, the Next Great Drummer follows Eric Seats’ life as he auditions drummers from far and near. The show provides a venue to discover great new talent and give them the opportunity to excel in the music business with feedback from judges that are well known throughout the industry as some of best in the world.
There is available VIP seating offering specially prepared meals, stage front seating, and the chance to mingle with your favorite jazz artists. This three-day festival in a beautiful lagoon setting is an experience you will never forget.
