Long Beach Job Corps Center Director Mitra Vazeen Honored by American Business Women’s Association

What better way to kick off International Women’s Day than to celebrate women here in Southern California at the Rio Hondo Event Center in Downey? The Southern California Council of the American Business Women’s Association honored several Women of Inspiration at their annual Women on the Go Conference on Saturday.
Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia, representing California’s 58th Assembly District presented awards to notable women of inspiration at the conference. Mayor Fernando Vasquez of Downey, California was on hand to congratulate the awardees. Mitra Vazeen, Center Director of Long Beach Job Corps Center was one of the honorees. Ms. Vazeen, who more than qualifies as an International Woman, was born in Tehran, Iran and came to this country in 1970 with her uncle, who was the acting Iranian ambassador. She inspires students at the Long Beach Job Corps Center every day, leading students and staff with poise, humor, tough love, kindness, and courage. She motivates the students to live up to their potential and use their talents.
According to Mitra Vazeen, Center Director, “I am honored to be selected by the American Business Women’s Association to be awarded the recognition as one of the Women of Inspiration.”
Long Beach Job Corps Center has 265 students and offers career technical training to be an automotive technician, cement mason, certified nurse assistant/home health aide, clinical medical assistant, facilities maintenance worker, glazier, medical office support specialist, industrial painter, and pharmacy technician.
Administered by the U.S. Department of Labor, Job Corps is the nation’s largest career technical training and education program for income-eligible students ages 16 through 24. Job Corps is a U.S. Department of Labor Equal Opportunity Employer Program.
