Long Beach Job Corps Ranked #2 in the Nation
2015-08-07 · By Editor
Long Beach Job Corps students and staff are elated. The center finished the Program Year ranked by the National Office of Job Corps as #2 out of over 120 Job Corps centers in the nation.
Each month the center is ranked on achievements such as a student’s initial job placement, attainment of high school diplomas and High School Equivalency, achieving higher literacy and numeracy levels, career technical training completions, and more. At the end of the year, this determines the center’s rank.
Matthew Davis, Center Director has led the Long Beach Job Corps team since November 2014. According to Davis, “The center’s ranking demonstrates that our students are achieving their goals and their hard work is paying off. Our staff’s support of our students is unparalleled. It is a winning combination. The students are earning high school diplomas and high school equivalency, receiving training and industry recognized certifications, getting their driver’s licenses, raising their literacy and numeracy levels, and getting jobs, enrolling in the military or starting college.”
Long Beach Job Corps Center has 300 students and offers career technical training to become an automotive technician, cement mason, certified nurse assistant/home health aide, clinical medical assistant, facilities maintenance worker, glazier, medical office support specialist, industrial painter, and pharmacy technician.
Administered by the U.S. Department of Labor, Job Corps is the nation’s largest career technical training and education program for income-eligible students ages 16 through 24. Job Corps is a U.S. Department of Labor Equal Opportunity Employer Program.
