Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Inc. (LBLGP, Inc.) will host a candlelight vigil in honor of Kim Maddox at 7 p.m. on Wednesday December 17. The vigil will take place at the Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Office, located at 1017 Obispo Ave., Long Beach, CA.
Recently Kimberly Maddox, former Co-President of LBLGP, Inc. was diagnosed with cancer. LBLGP, Inc. welcomes anyone who would like to attend. We would like to come together to offer prayers for the healing of Kimberly Maddox and sending her our love as a community to help her get through this battle with cancer.
Kim Maddox is a great leader and amazing person who always has a smile, as well as, a positive attitude. Not only was she involved with LBLGP, Inc. for many years as she is also a recently retired detective for the Long Beach Police Dept. where she served on the police force for 25+ years and helping Long Beach community stay safe. She was inducted into Long Beach State’s Hall of Fame for playing on their female basketball team, 49ers, in 1989. She still ranks among the top four performers in all of the key career categories: points (1775), assist (461), field goals (779) and steals (219). She participated in the 1980 & 1984 Olympic trials; she played for the U.S. National Team during its 1978 tour of the Orient. She is also a huge supporter & volunteer of her wife, Angel Macias, non-profit organization, California Families in Focus.
Through this candlelight prayer vigil, we hope to unite the community, family and friends together to offer support in her hour of need. “Kim has given a lot to our community and we should show her support in her time of need as well. We want her to know that the City of Long Beach loves and cares for her.” says Denise Newman, Co-President of LBLGP, Inc.
In lieu of sending flowers to the hospital Kim is requesting that donations made to “The Spirit of Christmas” which is an event that California Families in Focus holds. We will be accepting donations onsite at the prayer vigil on behalf of California Families in Focus.
