Long Beach Meditation to Host Open House at New Location

Long Beach Meditation, one of the oldest mindfulness meditation centers in Southern California, recently moved into a dedicated center and is holding an open house to give members of the public an opportunity to learn more about the organization and its programs.
Located in the Peace Builders Building on 741 Atlantic Avenue, Long Beach, CA 90813, Long Beach Mediation invites anyone who is interested in learning more about meditation or our organization to attend the Open House on Saturday, January 25 from 1-3 pm to meet with teachers and other members of the group. Light refreshments and tours of the facility will be offered.
Long Beach Meditation was founded in 1993 and has grown into one of the most active meditation centers in Southern California. Long Beach Meditation practices insight or mindfulness meditation, a time-honored method for developing mindfulness and concentration. Long Beach Meditation is not affiliated with any religious organization. Our meditation group is a patchwork of people from all faith traditions, or none. Regular attendees come from every corner of Long Beach and surrounding communities in Los Angeles and Orange County. Everyone is welcome to sit with us.
Long Beach Meditation offers weekly sits, retreats and on-going instruction in meditation by our Teachers’ Council, led by Founder and Guiding Teacher Victor Byrd. Dr. Victor Byrd has been a psychotherapist in Long Beach for the past twenty years. He has studied many Eastern wisdom traditions for nearly forty years and recently published The Bare Bones of the Buddha’s Teaching, available at Apostrophe Books on Second St. and on Amazon. Dr. Byrd is joined by a dedicated group of teachers including Wendy Block, Jane Broadwell and Brad Gibson, who lead sits, retreats and offer guidance in the dharma.
Key activities include:
• Beginner and Intermediate meditation courses
• Weekly meditation sits and dharma talk Sundays at 3 pm
• Weekly sits on Wednesday evenings at 7 pm
• 6 am sits on Friday Mornings
• Numerous half-day retreats and all-day retreats
