long-beach-municipl-band-concerts summer in the parkThe Long Beach Municipal Band is celebrating it’s 101st season by presenting a summer full of concerts in the park. The annual outdoor summer concert season returns to Long Beach parks starting June 30. Each of the seven weeks of the season will focus on a different theme and will be performed by the band’s 40 professional musicians and conducted by Larry Curtis.

To cap off several of the summer performances, concert audiences will be treated to selections from special vocalists—accompanied by the Long Beach Municipal Band’s Studio Band.

Brought to the community by the Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine Department and Partners of Parks, the band will serve up a total of 27 concerts this season in local parks. Performances are slated for Tuesdays through Fridays, June 30 through August 13. All concerts begin at 6:30 p.m.

The Long Beach Municipal Band is in its 101st season, making it the longest running, municipally supported band in the country. These free summer concerts provide a chance for neighbors and families to gather outdoors for a relaxing evening of picnicking, entertainment and music.

“The old-fashioned concert in the park is one of the finest family entertainment experiences available,” said Curtis. “Many who attend the concerts bring picnic dinners and blankets or lawn chairs. It’s a very festive atmosphere.”
