long-beach-race-weekAcura Ullman Sails Long Beach Race Week, featuring competition among more than 130 boats, will be held June 26-28 in the waters off Long Beach.

During Long Beach Race Week, boats compete in races both inside and outside the breakwater.

Co-hosted by the Long Beach Yacht Club (LBYC) and Alamitos Bay Yacht Club (ABYC), the event will be kicked off by a post-race party Friday night, June 26, at the ABYC located at 7201 East Ocean Boulevard. Contact the club by phone at (562) 434-9955.

Stop by the Alamitos Bay Yacht Club for live music and a Fiesta Bar compliments of Gladstones.

A water taxi will be available for travel between the Long Beach and Alamitos Bat yacht clubs. For on-land travel, the Big Red Bus will run every 30 minutes making a loop between from LBYC, the Marina parking lot and the ABYC. Public parking is available in metered lots across from ABYC at 7021 East Ocean Boulevard.

In addition to individual awards, the Long Beach Race Week competition includes the Yacht Club Challenge Trophy team award. The Yacht Club Challenge Trophy is based on cumulative scoring of teams composed of three yachts competing in three separate classes at Ullman Sails Long Beach Race Week.

The Golison Kent Family Trophy will be awarded to the highest placing boat with the lowest average race score, whose skipper sails the series with a minimum of three family members aboard including the skipper.

Connie Golison and Lydia Kent were the wives and mothers of two of Long Beach’s most prominent sailing families. In addition to their on the water success, the Golison family started “Golison Race Week” in 1985. The Kent family is a three-time winner of “Golison Race Week”. The Golison and Kent families are proud to donate and perpetuate the “Golison & Kent Family Trophy” for family sailing at Race Week. It is fitting that this perpetual trophy, given in the two mothers’ memories, is awarded for family sailing excellence.
