The Long Beach Symphony Association’s Board of Directors announced today they voted to renew Executive Director Kelly Ruggirello’s contract through the 2016-2017 season.

Viewed as a reward for her performance over the past year, during which the Symphony has experienced positive and transformative growth, as well as a vote of confidence in the Director’s ability to spearhead further growth in coming years, Irv Miller, President of the Association Board, stated, “In her short time with us, Kelly has reenergized the Symphony family of individual supporters, subscribers, and corporate, government and foundation donors. The Board is excited to have Kelly at the helm as we enter into this new chapter for the Long Beach Symphony.”

During her 18-month tenure, Ruggirello’s successes include ending this past fiscal year with a surplus – the first in over a decade, negotiating a new, two-year collective bargaining agreement with the local musicians union and assembling a strong administrative team.

Upon acceptance of the Board’s three-year contract offer, Ruggirello stated, “I am deeply honored to be a part of this outstanding 80-year old institution and absolutely thrilled to help lead this world-class Long Beach treasure into a new era filled with so many artistic, educational and civic engagement possibilities for the city and for the community.”
