The extreme storm plaguing Long Beach is a good reason to stay inside. Officials and neighborhood organizers agree, and many are canceling events or closing up for the next few days. Downtown Neighborhood Watch Meeting
Commander Johnson’s Quarterly Leadership and Downtown Neighborhood Watch Meeting has been rescheduled to Wednesday, February 24 at 7 pm, at the Cellar. The Cellar is located at 201 East Broadway.
4th District Snow Day in Whaley Park Re-scheduled
The 4th Long Beach City Council District Snow Day event originally scheduled for Saturday, January 23 at Whaley Park has been rescheduled for Saturday, February 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Recent rainy weather has left the park grounds too saturated to hold the event safely.
Planning Commission Meeting Canceled
Today’s regularly scheduled Planning Commission meeting has been cancelled. The next meeting will be held as scheduled on Thursday, February 4 at 5:00 pm in Council Chambers at Long Beach City Hall. For more information about the Planning Commission, visit lbds.longbeach.gov.
Poster Exhibit at Historical Society Postponed
The Historical Society has postponed the opening reception for the exhibit Posters on the American Home Front 1941–1945, originally scheduled for January 22 at 6 p.m. The exhibit, made possible by the Long Beach Rosie the Riveter Foundation, will be on display in the HSLB gallery through April 2. BKBIA Happy Hour Canceled
The Bixby Knolls Commnuity Happy Hour intended to take place at the Tile Zone Thursday night is canceled. Join the group next month at the BKBIA Annual Meeting, Thursday, February 18, 7 p.m., at the Long Beach Petroleum Club. For questions or information email email@example.com.
Airport Advisory Commission Meeting Canceled
The Airport Advisory Commission meeting, scheduled for January 21, 2010, has been cancelled. The next meeting of the Airport Advisory Commission will be held on Thursday, February 18, 2010.
Regional Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Networking Cafe
The Network Cafe originally scheduled for 9 a.m., January 21 at McDonalds on Bellflower Boulevard has been canceled. The monthly breakfast meeting will not be reschedule. Regional Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will have another Networking Mixer at Cafe Sevilla,140 Pine Avenue, on Wednesday, January 27 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Visit regionalhispaniccc.org for details.
Cal State Long Beach Campus Closed
Due to the severe storms, California State University, Long Beach will be closed for classes and business as of 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 20, through Thursday. University decided to close the school because of the flooding on campus and in the surrounding areas which create very dangerous road conditions. The campus will reopen on Friday. Students and staff can monitor www.csulb.edu for continuing updates from CSULB.
Cal Heights Safety Meeting with Council member Uranga Canceled
Wednesday night’s Neighborhood Safety Meeting at American Gold Star Manor is canceled due to extreme weather conditions. In a message to constituents, 7th District Council member Tonia Reyes Uranga urged residents to “Please stay indoors and if you must drive please be cautious.” The meeting, which was to discuss traffic and pedestrian safety following two tragic accidents involving 7th District residents, will be rescheduled “as soon as possible,” said John Royce, president of the California Heights Neighborhood Association.
