Long Beach Walk from Obesity Sponsored by St. Mary Medical Center

A walk to raise local and national awareness of the disease of obesity sponsored by St. Mary Medical Center will take place Saturday. The walk is set in a picturesque venue. Participants will walk on a path along the ocean and up the lighthouse hill, while taking in views of Shoreline Village and the Queen Mary.

Current and former weight-loss patients, loved ones, friends, colleagues, healthcare professionals and the community will join forces for the annual Walk from Obesity in recognition of the obesity epidemic. Special guest, Dr. Joseph Naim, renown St. Mary Medical Center Bariatric Surgeon, will be present to kick off the walk.

The Long Beach Walk from Obesity is Saturday, September 29, 2012, 8 a.m. (Registration begins), 9 a.m. (Walk begins) at Shoreline Aquatic Park, 200 Aquarium Way, Long Beach, CA 90802.

About the Walk from Obesity – The Walk from Obesity was established to raise awareness of the obesity epidemic and to support initiatives focusing on prevention, education, research, treatment and advocacy. Proceeds from the Walk benefit the independent educational and research initiatives of the American Association for Metabolic & Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) Foundation and the Obesity Action Coalition (OAC). Walkers raise money by asking friends, family and co-workers to sponsor them. In addition to walker income, funds are raised through sponsorship, matching gifts, corporate contributions and other fundraising activities.

About the ASMBS Foundation – The ASMBS Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to raising funds to help support obesity research and to increase professional and public awareness of bariatric surgery and its role in treating the devastating disease of morbid obesity.
