Children are our future… and the importance of donating blood for them, and the millions more who need your help each year, has caused Los Altos United Methodist Church to open its doors for an American Red Cross blood drive on Children’s Sunday, October 12th.

The blood drive will be held from 8:00 AM – 2:15 PM in the Church Lounge, 5950 East Willow Street, Long Beach 90815 (corner of Willow and Woodruff). Sign up online at redcrossblood.org and type in sponsor code: LAUMC, or contact the church at 562-598-2451 to schedule a blood donation or request additional information. Blood donors are also invited to join the church for one of three worship services each Sunday: 8:30 am in the sanctuary with hymn singing, prayer and organ accompaniment; 9:20 am for an informal and relaxed setting supported by the church’s Praise Band in Fellowship Hall; and the 11 am traditional service offered in the Sanctuary with the choir, organ, occasional handbell choirs and children’s choirs.

In addition to events like the blood drive, or worship experience, the church offers opportunities to grow for all ages. Infants and toddlers have a newly refurbished childcare room with a professional caregiver. For children and youth, Sunday School is available all year round and young people can also partake in the children’s choir, youth choir and youth handbell choir. The youth group also allows for regular gatherings, special events, mission trips and other activities to be involved in the community.

For adults, the church offers classes focusing on bible study and current issues, such as immigration, in the news as they relate to our everyday lives. Adults can also join the adult choir or handbell choir. In addition, the church believes in servicing the community, including ESL Tutoring, monthly meals for the homeless, family visits to incarcerated parents and Habitat for Humanity building projects.
