Low Vision Center at St. Mary Medical Center Provides Access to Free Telephones

If a friend of yours has limited vision, let him or her know that the Low Vision Center at St. Mary Medical Center will host topical lectures in September and provide access to free specialized telephones.
The Low Vision Center provides free services to the Southern California community and helps children and adults enhance their vision to its fullest potential. The Center has a variety of helpful household tools in store and assists people with low vision achieve their independence. The Low Vision Center at St. Mary Medical Center is located on the second floor of the Parr Health Enhancement Center, 1055 Linden Avenue, the building directly across from the main hospital.
September Classes and Lectures:
· Thursday, Sept. 4, 2014: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
California Telephone Access Program – offers a range of free, specialized phones that are easier to hear, easier to dial, and easier to use. These free telephones and devices will turn up the volume, allow hands-free operation, flash incoming calls, display conversation in text, and recall numbers. All phones are provided free to California residents who have an existing residential phone service. Please call early for an application, which must be filled out by your primary health care physician prior to the class. Friends and family are welcome. · Thursday, Sept. 11, 2014: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
DIABETES – Ingrid Lieu, MD, Family Medicine, will lecture about the causes of diabetes type 1 and type 2, the risks, treatments, myths, symptoms, and effects of the disease. She will also talk about meals and fitness. Check in time is at 9:30 a.m. RSVP by calling 562-491-9275.
· Tuesday, Sept. 16, 2014: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
GLAUCOMA – Join eye care professional and ophthalmologist Theodore Pasquali, MD for a lecture about glaucoma. Learn about symptoms, treatments, and research. Check in time is at 9:30 a.m. RSVP by calling 562-491-9275.
