Located in the heart of Cambodia Town, MacArthur Park is one of the many highly utilized parks in the 6th District of Long Beach. The park, which is also home to the Homeland Cultural Center which is a venue for many artistic and cultural programs, is slated for a list of improvements scheduled to begin soon.
“I have been working on this park project for some time and I am truly excited to see the renovations starting next month. This park is a gem in the 6th District and I am ready to see it continue to flourish”, said Councilman Dee Andrews.
Over the years, Councilman Andrews has been active in rehabilitating the park and the surrounding area with projects like the Manazar Gamboa Community Theater, a 70 seat theater commemorating the inspirational legacy of Manazar Gamboa, the Mark Twain Library, the first LEED Certified (green) public building in the city, and the recently completed rehabilitation of the sidewalks, streets and gutters on Gundry Avenue, located adjacent to the park.
The work on the 3.9 acres of park will be a two-phase project. Phase one has been planned to include rehabilitation of the community center interior. The upgrades will encompass the kitchen, restroom, activity room, and community room. The items to be replaced/upgrades, include lighting, flooring, ceiling, doors, fixtures and paint. Phase two has been planned to include rehabilitation to the stand-alone restroom and playground park amenities. The construction will run from August to December of this year.
The parks completion will intertwine with Councilman Andrews’s other 6th District area projects like the Anaheim Corridor Visioning Project, the Midtown Property Improvement District and the opening of the Cambodia Town Night Market, which was recently rescheduled to coincide with the finishing of the parks construction.
MacArthur Park is located at 1321 E. Anaheim Street, in the City of Long Beach. For more information please call the office of Councilman Dee Andrews at (562) 570-6816.
