mark-sasawayPortfolio Coffeehouse, the premiere coffeehouse of Long Beach, is pleased to present, “The Special Object and Subjective Space”, a four-venue exhibition of recent editioned prints from paintings by artist/illustrator, Mark Sasway. The four venues are: Portfolio Coffeehouse (2300 East 4th @ Junipero), the newly refurbished historical The Art Theater (2025 E. 4th), and the theater’s two affiliated satellite spaces, Art du Vin Wine Bar & The Portfolio Annex Coffee Bar.

The exhibition will run in each location from April 1st – May 15th; the exhibition’s opening will be held on Saturday, April 25th, 8-10pm @ Portfolio (coinciding with the 4th Street monthly “Last Saturdays” event).

“This exhibit at Portfolio is a homecoming of sorts,” said Sasway, “which was the venue of my first solo exhibition in 1991. After having focused on work as an illustrator for 13 years, I returned to the rendering basics of drawing and painting as well, if not drawing and painting, per se. The world has gone digital and my work as an illustrator has as well. I could not help but suspect that I could be using many of the powerful imaging programs available to accelerate vast experimentation and exponentially conclude much more of my personal work. The editioned prints of these new digital ‘paintings’ on exhibit celebrate traditionally rendered surface and dimension, brush gesture, and the rich colorful texture of paint on canvas.”
