The Democratic Women’s Study Club of Long Beach will be hosting their 82nd Annual Great American Picnic on Saturday, August 9 at noon at Wardlow Park. Each year, this event attracts a large number of elected officials and guests from Long Beach and surrounding cities.
“Our annual picnic is a great chance for Democrats, both men and women, from all areas, ages and backgrounds to come together and meet like-minded people,” said club President Sharon Weissman. “This year we will be joined by a new Long Beach City Council and it will be a great opportunity to meet the new leadership.”
This year’s event co-hosts are: Rep. Linda Sanchez, Rep. Alan Lowenthal, Rep. Janice Hahn, Sen. Ricardo Lara, Asm. Bonnie Lowenthal, Asm. Anthony Rendon, LB Mayor Robert Garcia, LB Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal, LB Councilmembers Lena Gonzalez, Suzie Price and Patrick O’Donnell, LBCC Trustee Sunny Zia, LBUSD Board Member Megan Kerr, CA Democratic Party Regional Director Sergio Carrillo, WRD Div. 3 Candidate Tonia Reyes Uranga, Central Basin Water District Candidate Jason Gardea Stinnett and IBEW, Local 11.
Hot dogs and hamburgers will be generously donated and grilled by Long Beach Firefighters, Local 372.
The Great American Picnic also serves as the swearing-in celebration for the DWSC’s new Board Officers. Our club is pleased to announce the new board as: President Herlinda Chico, Vice President Sharon Weissman, Secretary Tim Patton, Treasurer Marisol Barajas, and Historian Ron Nelson. Entry into the BBQ is $5 for members and $10 for non-members. The cost of the BBQ will be waived for those who purchase a membership for $20 or have a financial hardship.
