The 2nd “Miles for Meds” 5k & 10k Run, Walk, Stroll takes place on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Shoreline Village in Long Beach’s downtown waterfront. This year’s efforts take on an even greater significance in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, which has killed thousands and left tens of thousands of people homeless and without medical care.
Proceeds from “Miles for Meds” will go to immediate typhoon relief as well as medical missions in early 2014. The medical missions will take place in one of the affected areas, currently in a state of calamity with no electricity and is 80% flooded.
Miles for Meds is a project of Jars Ministries, a non-profit organization, in cooperation with Christian Bible Fellowship in Arcadia, and Long Beach’s Fil-Am Christian Fellowship and Grace Home Health Care to provide much needed medical aid for needy families in the Philippines.
Long Beach Convention & Visitors Bureau Membership Director, Claudette Baldemor is one of the main event coordinators of Miles for Meds. She is reaching out to the local Long Beach community for support and encourages everyone to participate. Donations (themed baskets and/or gift certificates) from local businesses are still being accepted for the silent auction.
Miles for Meds starts at 7:30 a.m. Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Shoreline Village’s Boardwalk Stage. A silent auction opens at 10 a.m. A $30 registration fee includes a T-shirt and bag and participation in the 10k run or 5k walk. Baby strollers and dog walkers are welcome. Individuals and/or groups are encouraged to register on Active.com. Deadline to register is November 19, 2013.
