Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride is proud to announce the former Miss Nicaragua International, Indira Rojas Calderon, will be participating in the 2014 Long Beach Lesbian and Gay Pride Parade on May 18, 2014.
Ms. Calderon is visiting the United States for an upcoming movie project and contacted the pride parade organizers in hopes of supporting the LGBT community in America. “I am thrilled to be apart of one of the world’s largest gay parades. In my country individuals and communities still face widespread discrimination, as well as human rights violations based on their sexual orientation and gender identity”, said Ms. Calderon. “Being in this parade is my way of breaking down barriers and standing up for ALL of Nicaragua. I hope that other international pageant representatives follow”, continued Ms. Calderon.
Indira started her pageant career winning the national contest of Miss Carnaval Nicaragua 2009. She then traveled to Colombia, where she won first runner up representing Nicaragua in Reinado Mundial de la piña. Next, she won Miss Nicaragua Hispanoamericana and had to travel to represent Nicaragua in Bolivia, which lead her to the Miss Nicaragua beauty pageant where she was crowned as Miss Nicaragua International 2010. She proudly represented her country in the one of the most prestigious beauty pageant in the world, Miss International Beauty Pageant.
Since her crowning, she has become an international model, television, and movie actress. She hosted several television programs in Nicaragua where she interviewed several celebrities and musicians like Don King, Paul Van Dyk, Steve Aoki, and Armin Van Buuren.
The annual Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Parade will be held on Sunday, May 18th, with step off at 10:30 am on the scenic Ocean Blvd at Lindero Avenue.
