momsEverythingLongBeach.com recently spoke with Beckie Daley, Administrative Coordinator of MOMS Making Our Mothering Significant, via email. They talked about the inspirations and challenges of running a nonprofit organization in Long Beach.

How long has MOMS Making Our Mothering Significant been around? Did it start in Long Beach?

MOMS has been around for more than 10 years. It began and is still held in Long Beach.

Describe MOMS Making Our Mothering Significant. Tell us a little about your nonprofit, your mission, the people you serve or your goals.

MOMS is a place for women with young children to meet each week for support and advice, while their children are lovingly cared for. Our mission is to reach out to moms who need to connect with other women who are in the same stage of life.

How is MOMS Making Our Mothering Significant different from similar nonprofits?

Moms who attend sit with the same table of women each week and take turns bringing food and serving the other women by caring for their kids once every 6 weeks.

How is MOMS Making Our Mothering Significant involved with the community?

The women who attend live in the community of Long Beach and surrounding cities and come together to encourage each other in their lives as moms. The women at MOMS support each other by bringing meals when new babies are born and watching each others’ children when need arises. We also hold a yard sale and other events that include the greater community.

What are some of the biggest successes MOMS Making Our Mothering Significant has had?

Each year we plan a MOMS Getaway to give our MOMS 24 hours to rest, replenish their energy and have a little fun while connecting with other MOMS who are going through similar trials, triumphs and joys of motherhood.

What is the most rewarding part of running MOMS Making Our Mothering Significant?

The most rewarding part of running this organization is seeing the joy and transformation that can happen in a mom who once felt isolated at home, but now has a whole group of women who have become her friends and love and support her.

What are the challenges you face — as a nonprofit, as an advocacy group, or in your industry?

One of the challenges we face is making sure we get the word out to all moms in the Long Beach area. You can help us by spreading the word to any mother of young children in your life. We want the opportunity to get to know her and enrich her life as well as her childrens’.

What are the future plans for MOMS Making Our Mothering Significant?

We will be taking an outing to the Santa Ana Zoo in November. We will be holding a Christmas Boutique in December where women can do their shopping for the season. The Easter Egg Hunt in the park and the Getaway will be held in Spring. We plan to continue providing a fun and friendly environment for moms and their little ones.

Do you have any special events or fundraisers you’d like to tell us about?

We will be having a fundraising Yard Sale Saturday, November 6 @ 7am
3708 Marwick Ave., Long Beach, 90808.

How can people get involved with MOMS Making Our Mothering Significant? What do you need — volunteers, donations, etc?

We are looking for donations in any amount to give away in a free raffle to our MOMS at the Getaway. Donations may include items such as gift certificates, gift baskets or product donations. Monetary contributions are also welcome to help a mother of limited means have the opportunity to attend. We would love to have you show MOMS in your community that you honor and support them. Donations can picked up at your location for your convenience or can be mailed directly to Bethany Church, attention MOMS at 2250 Clark Ave, Long Beach, CA 90815. Your business name will be included in the MOMS Getaway brochure so that our attendees will know the kindness you so graciously showed them and as a thank you for your support.
