Hillgrass Bluebilly Southern California announces a new roots music showcase to take place once a month at Long Beach’s premier live venue for punk rock and beyond – Alex’s Bar. Just over two years ago the same venue was the destination for Hillgrass So. Cal’s own kickoff event featuring local favorites Los Duggans and Restavrant among others. Fast forward two years and over 50 events around Southern California later, Hillgrass Bluebilly Southern California will be bringing some of the best roots music acts back to Long Beach every month on each fourth Friday.

What is “Roots Music” you ask? It can be interpreted in many ways but the way we interpret it is
music that is influenced by a mix of the roots of American Music which can be a blend of Country Music, Blues, Folk, Bluegrass, or all of the above. Many of the acts blur the lines and might also add in a little punk rock for flavor, but the most important component to Hillgrass Bluebilly is the genuineness. Hillgrass So. Cal takes pride in providing a genuine experience to the concert goers to help create culture and provide an opportunity to expose the community to a genre of music that might have been looked over if it wasn’t done properly.

The inaugural 4th Friday event will not be an exception and will feature some of the best local and regional acts along with touring headliner, Leon Virgil Bowers. Leon aka Leroy has been the staple, founding member and sole songwriter of the popular self penned “Scumbag Country” band Hellbound Glory since 2008 but recently announced a new incarnation as a solo performer under his birth name (Leon Virgill Bowers). Leon has one of the strongest voices in country music that are out there today which is why we named him one of the “Underground Country Artists we think you should know about” and we are thrilled to bring him down from Reno, NV to showcase his talent in Long Beach.

Co-headlining the night will be former Long Beach and current Los Angeles resident, Sam Outlaw. Sam is an up and coming country music performer with a new album in the works entitled ‘Angelino’ which was produced by the legendary Ry Cooder. Sam employs some of the best players from around Southern California in his band and they have made a name for themselves for their great live performances around Los Angeles and Nashville alike. Additionally we have one of our favorite songwriter’s band on the bill, local favorite, and two-time Long Beach Folk Revival Festival Performer, RT N’ the 44’s. Hillgrass Bluebilly Recording Artist from Chicago, Illinois, Soda Gardocki and his 12 string banjo will complete the lineup for this eclectic night of roots music

Hillgrass Bluebilly Southern California takes over Alex’s Bar, 2913 E. Anaheim St., on Friday, January 23, 2015 from 8pm – 2am.
