On Saturday, December 18, 2010, at approximately 5:30 a.m., officers from the Long Beach Police Department were dispatched the 1300 block of Raymond Avenue regarding a male adult who had been shot in the torso while inside a residence. Long Beach Fire Department paramedics transported the victim, identified as Julio Hernandez, a 28-year old Compton resident, to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased several hours later.
The preliminary investigation indicates that two men had come to the residence and were allowed inside by Victim Hernandez. There was a verbal dispute, and one of the men produced a gun, shot the victim, and both suspects fled.
On Wednesday, December 22, 2010, detectives obtained arrests warrants for the two suspects, and both were taken into custody. They have been identified as 30-year-old Juan Francisco Moreno of San Pedro and 34-year-old Paul James Moore of Long Beach. Both suspects were taken into custody without incident and will be charged with the murder of Julio Hernandez. Although the motive for the shooting is not known, at this time it is believed the incident is gang-related.
