Murder Suspect Arrested and Charged

On Sunday, July 27, 2014, detectives from the Long Beach Police Department arrested 21-year-old long beach resident Jemar Welch in the 300 block of Lime Avenue for the murder of Alexander Johnson.

Johnson was struck by gunfire on Friday, July 18, 2014, in the 2100 block of Earl Avenue. The motive for the shooting is unknown. However, detectives believe the crime is gang related.

On Tuesday, July 29, 2014, detectives presented the case to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Subsequently,  murder and weapon charges with a gang enhancement were filed against Welch.

Welch is currently being held at the Los Angeles County Jail on $1,000,000 bail.
