The Long Beach Branch NAACP Fit & Focus Program will conduct the 2011 Summer Camps in Golf, Tennis, and Sailing Camps. These free camps normally cost up to five hundred dollars or more. Fitness and Focus camps promote life-long fitness and health by introducing non-traditional sports and activities.
The Long Beach Branch NAACP Community Impact Program includes a Fit & Focus component. In 2010, one hundred and twenty five students participated in the golf, tennis and sailing program. Students receive professional instruction. The camps are held in conjunction with LA County Supervisor Don Knabe’s office, Long Beach Parks, Recreation and Marine Department, US Sailing Center & Foundation, the Long Beach Yacht Club & Foundation, First Serve Tennis Program, and Rainey Pierson Properties and Rentals.
The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) was formed in 1909 by a group of black and white citizens, in response to injustice that many Americans confronted solely because of race. Today, the NAACP, the oldest and largest civil rights organization in the world, continues to focus major efforts at increasing voter empowerment, educational excellence and individual responsibility, thus creating an infrastructure for economic and social development and new effective ways to develop young leaders.
