On Monday, February 1, the Wrigley Association and California Heights Neighborhood Association will host a forum with candidates running for the Long Beach Seventh District City Council seat. The election will be held April 13, 2010.

The greening of Atlantic Avenue in the Bixby Knolls – California Heights area continues. Saturday, January 30 will mark the final stretch of Atlantic Avenue between the 405 freeway and San Antonio to be planted since the community partnership between Cal Heights ReLeaf and the Bixby Knolls Business Improvement Association set out to beautify this important commercial corridor.

Cal Heights couple competes to be the Ultimate Thailand Explorers


Cal Heights residents Jackson Choy and Lori Fujikawa-Choy were recently selected as semi-finalists in the Ultimate Thailand Explorers competition. This international contest is sponsored by the Tourism Authority of Thailand and features competitors from around the world including the UK, Australia, Poland, Singapore, France, the Philippines, and Canada.

Animal Control respond to Bixby Knolls Coyotes with stepped up patrols


Due to recent reports of increasingly aggressive coyote behavior, the Department of Fish & Game has recommended that neighborhoods in the 90807 zip code take additional actions to prevent human-wildlife conflict. Animal Control Officers have already increased patrols in the morning and evening when coyotes are most active and will be following-up with residents reporting incidents where coyotes have approached adults in an aggressive manner or approached areas where children were present.

St. Petersburg Men’s Ensemble Performs in Cal Heights


Join the Friends of Music at Cal Heights United Methodist Church when the St. Petersburg Men’s Ensemble performs Russian Sacred and Folk Songs at a concert Sunday, May 3 at 4:00 pm. The St. Petersburg Men’s Ensemble, which includes the talents of Kirill Sokolov, Evgeny Vishnevsky and Vadim Smantser, has been performing in churches throughout the United States since 2002.
